Those are the first words we hear in the trailer for Zoë Saldaña’s new Netflix show, From Scratch, and from that alone, it’s hard not to be hooked.
The limited series, which premiered on October 21, is like a mix of Emily in Paris and Under the Tuscan Sun, and it’s based on a best-selling memoir by Tembi Locke. When it premiered, the show quickly jumped into Netflix’s list of most-watched series, and it has stayed there ever since, overtaking major hits like The Watcher and Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities.
Amy (Saldaa), a young woman from the United States, is the protagonist of the film From Scratch. Amy travels to Italy with the intention of exploring the world of art, but she ends up discovering something quite different when she meets a charming chef named Lino (Eugenio Mastrandrea).
In spite of the fact that these two individuals believe that there are a lot of obstacles in their path, they give in to the power of their love and decide to begin their lives together in Los Angeles.
Lino declares in the promotional video, “Nothing is keeping us back.” “There are no waking hours ahead.” However, as the video demonstrates, the couple faces challenges as Lino experiences difficulty adjusting to life in the United States and locating a market for his cooking skills. When they are both confronted with an unforeseen tragedy, they are both forced to seek assistance from their friends and family.
Nevertheless, a message of love and hope appears to be at the heart of the play. Amy thinks that Italians are big fans of a good love story. “And ours will be remembered through the ages.”
From Scratch stars not only Salda and Mastrandrea, but also Judith Scott (Dexter), Danielle Deadwyler (Till), Kellita Smith (The Bernie Mac Show), Lucia Sardo (One Hundred Steps), and many others.
Together with Attica Locke, the creator of the original material that inspired the limited series made it (Empire).
